On May 1st, 1886 the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions proclaimed that "8 hours shall constitute a legal day's labor from and after this day." More than 300,000 workers from 13,000 businesses walked out of their jobs across the country in support. This event is a commemoration of the fight for better working conditions and the importance of organizing with our fellow laborers. We plan to have speeches from local union leaders and members, as well as a barbecue.
