Live music with Martha Scanlan and Jon Neufeld

Join us for a night of live music with Martha Scanlan and Jon Neufeld!

  • 20$ tickets

  • Kicking off at 7PM

While Martha Scanlan and Jon Neufeld’s collective accolades are impressive- they have shared the stage and collaborated with artists as diverse as Levon Helm, Jim James, Emmy Lou Harris and Peter Buck, and played festivals from Merlefest to Bonnaroo- it is their unique alchemy, a sense of adventure and improvisation on stage and in the studio, that most characterizes their work together and what has earned them a loyal cult following world wide.

The 2024 release Save it For Later, their fourth album together, was listed among the year’s best albums by No Depression Magazine. They are currently at work on a new collection of original songs, traveling back and forth between Neufeld’s home in Portland, Oregon where he works as a mixing and mastering engineer and Scanlan’s in Western Montana. Scanlan’s songs have appeared in works by celebrated American authors Joyce Carol Oates and Rick Bass and have been covered by Sarah Jarosz, Solas, and Andrew Marlin of Watchhouse. Her song Higher Rock is featured on Robert Plant’s latest release, Saving Grace.

Tavo Carbone in the Streetside Learning Center

Located in the Streetside Learning Center!

Down the sidewalk from our main entrance, by the gravel lot

$10 suggested donation

TAVO CARBONE has been an active songwriter and recording artist since 1998, independently touring since 2007. Songs are described as "dystopian folk/blues" with musical influences that include Michael Hurley, Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, others. There's an off-kilter charm to Tavo Carbone's oddball, old-timey pop. Essentially a solo act, Carbone's been known to employ orchestral flourishes to flesh out his skeletal acoustics including at one point a 17-piece backing band

In recent years Tavo has adopted the odd stage moniker of a bald eagle mask with a moving beak. This theatrically engaging visual element has become a consistently developed 'character' of sorts in venue spaces all over the country. Carbone lives and tours in a 1991 Toyota motorhome with his dog and performs in theaters, basements, living rooms, record stores, etc. Tavo is currently on the Why America Tour which will traverse 38 states and conclude at the end of 2027.

Defiance on the Dance Floor

Join Blue Mountain Clinic for a powerful night of joy, resistance, music, and community at Defiance on the Dance Floor — a fundraiser supporting our ongoing fight for reproductive freedom.

We’re bringing the energy with an epic live set from Desperate Electric, a magnetic drag performance by Eunice Sexx, and the launch of our very first Art & Adventure Auction featuring incredible local art, experiences, STI testing from 6-8pm, and more — all in support of accessible reproductive healthcare in Montana.

This year’s event takes place during the week marking four years since the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade — a ruling that reshaped reproductive healthcare across the country. But this night is about more than reflection. It’s about showing up for each other, celebrating our collective power, and recommitting to abortion access and bodily autonomy for all.

Bring your friends, your chosen family, your dancing shoes, and your boldest energy. Let’s dance in defiance, celebrate resilience, and raise critical support for Blue Mountain Clinic together.

Saturday, June 27th | 7-10pm
Free Cycles, 732 S 1st St W, Missoula, MT

Sliding Scale Entry: $15-50

A Night at the Grand Opera: A Giant Puppet Show with String & Shadow

Set in an old European opera house during the golden age of Grand Opera, Night at the Grand Opera is a frenzied romp through a candlelit night at the Opera.

Rococo extravagance is fashioned with elaborate cardboard sets that collapse and unfold to reveal the many great dramas of the opera house (not all of which happen on stage.)

Love triangles, converging revolutionary plots, art-loving flies and disaffected vermin are brought to life with cardboard and paper-mache!

$20-35 suggested donation

String and Shadow Puppet Theater is a theater company based in Olympia, Washington. With cardboard, fabric, and paper mache, their visually stunning performances incorporate music, dance, and circus arts to tell original stories that engage the imaginations of their audiences. In the words of an audience member, "String and Shadow's worlds of fantasy and fable pluck at the strings of universal innocence, wonder, and joy." Emerging during the pandemic with Drive-In performances, String and Shadow aims to strengthen communities and provide accessible art, often through donation-based or free events. Since 2023, they have toured regionally and nationally throughout the United States.

End-Of-Life Documents Workshop: Your Wishes Your Voice

Your Wishes, Your Voice: END-OF-LIFE DOCUMENTS WORKSHOP.

If something unexpected happened tomorrow, would your loved ones know what you want?

Most of us mean to complete our end-of-life paperwork, but we just don’t get around to it. Not because it isn’t important — but because it feels overwhelming, confusing, or easy to postpone.

This workshop helps you move it from “someday” to done.

Join three local death midwives for a small, guided working session where you will:

  • Learn what end-of-life documents are actually needed in Montana

  • Reflect on your personal values and wishes

  • Begin your advance directive

  • Designate a healthcare representative and a financial power of attorney

  • Understand the basics of estate planning and related documents

  • Ask tough questions in a supportive, grounded space

  • Access a notary to finalize documents before you leave

We will present key information, but this is not a lecture. This is dedicated time to sit down and take care of something that matters.

This workshop is for:

  • Adults of any age without an advance directive

  • Caregivers

  • Those supporting aging parents

  • Anyone who wants to reduce stress for their loved ones

  • People who value preparedness and clarity

You do not need to be ill. You do not need to be elderly. You simply need to care about the people who would be left making decisions.

We often hear families say, “We didn’t know what they wanted.” Planning ahead is one of the most practical and loving things you can do.

Walk away with meaningful progress, greater clarity, and peace of mind.

Register in advance: We intentionally keep this workshop small so everyone can receive individual support.

Early bird and buddy deals

Register early (before September 15th) and save $5 on your ticket with the code EARLY5. Early registrants will also receive copies of the main forms in advance, for review.

Because these topics can feel easier with support, we offer a Buddy Discount. Register with a partner, friend, or parent and receive $5 off each ticket using the code BUDDY10.

Plan ahead. Ease the burden. Leave clarity behind.

Thunder Garden: Puppet Slam!

Expect adult themes

Thunder Garden is a performance event for puppeteers and other performing artists to showcase and develop new work.

Performers will have 3 - 5 minute to perform new work for a live audience of supportive enthusiasts. All styles and skill levels are warmly embraced.

To sign up, please email: thundergardenpuppets@gmail.com

What if you’re interested in participating, but are new to puppetry? If you need help designing or building puppets, developing ideas, or writing for puppets, Thunder Garden offers collaborative guidance. Maybe you enjoy performing, but your puppet building skills are less developed. Or maybe you’re really good at building and construction, but performance isn’t your thing. We can connect you with creators that have complimentary skills, so that together, you can bring a puppet piece to life.

If you want to perform, please pre-register. This will help us plan the show, and to provide any pertinent equipment, sound support, staging and lighting.

You don’t have to participate to attend, but if you happen to get inspired during the show, there will be a number of “loaner puppets” at the venue.

Last minute participation is encouraged!

Join for an engaging evening of live music! Doors will open at 630pm. Junior will play from 7pm to 8pm. Lena Marie Schiffer and the House of Sky will play from 8:30pm to 10pm. $10 at the door.

All are welcome… and Thank you! About the bands and musicians:

Lena Marie Schiffer and The House of Sky - Montana Folk Music

Lena Marie Schiffer is a folk singer-songwriter based in Livingston, Montana, known for her deeply personal lyrics and powerful storytelling. After a decade of touring nationally with her former band, Laney Lou and the Bird Dogs, she embarked on a solo career, developing a sound that blends folk, indie, and Americana influences.

In 2024, Lena teamed up with classically trained violinist, Ani Casabonne. Originally from Frisco, Colorado, Ani discovered her love for folk and bluegrass at a young age and quickly became a staple in the Montana music scene. Together, their undeniable chemistry captivates audiences, whether in intimate venues or on festival stages. Ani and Lena recently brought on additional members to form The House of Sky band – Ian Jarvi (drums), Michael Kirkwood (electric guitar), and Grant Klopfer (bass) — bringing Lena's songs to life in their fullest capacity.

Lena's debut solo album, House of Sky, was released on February 6th, 2026. Produced by Courtney Hartman, the album is a powerful and intimate exploration of the peaks and valleys of life. Through her deeply personal lyrics, Schiffer gracefully explores themes of love and connection, while also confronting the raw pain of grief and the uncertainty of life's challenges. Schiffer's grounded voice and honest storytelling guide listeners on a journey of self-discovery and self-forgiveness, making House of Sky a testament to the quiet strength found in moving forward.

Junior:

At the junction of folk, pop, and cosmic country, you'll find Junior, a Montana-based trio composed of songwriters Hermina Jean, Caroline Keys, and Jenny Lynn.

Set in an unsentimental West, their songs explore themes of romantic heartache, grief, aging, and life transitions. Lyrically and musically, their work captures the magical thinking required to endure such changes, drawing comparisons to artists like Mazzy Star, Sibylle Baier, The Cowboy Junkies, S.G. Goodman, and The Roches.

Formed in Missoula in 2019, the group began collaborating with Grammy winner Eric Heywood in 2020, who contributed his psychedelic pedal steel to their debut album, Warm Buildings. Most of the band now resides in the historic mining town of Butte, MT.

Junior's sophomore album, Alive in Another Way, was recorded at the Rope Room in Astoria, OR in the spring of 2025. It is currently in the final stages of production, and the band is seeking label support for a 2027 release.

Sue Schnitzer: Four Strings and a Song! Night of Ukulele jams

Fun night of ukulele tunes and amazing vocals!

Sue wrote and played music for kids for around twenty years in Colorado before moving to Memphis and then Arizona. These days she mainly plays for grown ups (or is it grown up kids?). Her main instruments are the ukulele and vocals, with the occasional tune on guitar.

Sue will be playing originals, folk, a little this and a little that, with a goal of touching hearts through music.

Sue recently released Walking in a Dream, a ukulele centric album of originals and a couple of folk classics. Available on Bandcamp and all the usual streaming services.
