Singing Resistance

RESISTANCE SONG CIRCLE hosted by Singing Resistance Missoula, A.K.A. Missoula Resists SALT (Sing-Along Together)!

ALL ARE WELCOME to join the mass movement of singers protecting & caring for our communities in the face of rising authoritarianism.  We are taking regular action grounded in love, solidarity, defiant joy, and noncooperation.

We sing songs that are simple, taught-by-ear, and are relevant to these times.  While short, simple, and repetitive by design, the songs hold deep themes around the human experiences of grief, righteous rage, courage, and love.

All voices welcome!  You do NOT need to be a "good" singer to come make good trouble.

No musical experience necessary, just bring yourself exactly as you are.

Our goals:

♡ ...to become more prepared for ongoing & escalating authoritarian threats by building community infrastructure that keeps us more secure.

♡ ...to heal from the impacts of living in an oppressive society by reclaiming our capacity to feel and express emotion, to connect deeply with each other, and to act in solidarity across differences.

♡ ...to end all oppressive systems. We sing not only for the world that we want to create, but to create that world right here and now.

Singing has historically been a critical part of social movements globally as well as here in the U.S., with songs rooted in spirituals, folk, and gospel music.  While our project is secular, it is heavily inspired by these movements, including: South Africa's Anti-Apartheid Movement, Estonia's Singing Revolution, the U.S. Civil Rights Movement, and U.S. labor movements.  We believe in the POWER OF THE PEOPLE to shape our future!

Always free.  Please consider donating to Free Cycles as a THANK YOU for welcoming us to their wonderful space."

Located in Free Cycles’s Streetside room. Entrance is at the corner of 1st and Walnut.
