End-Of-Life Documents Workshop: Your Wishes Your Voice

Your Wishes, Your Voice: END-OF-LIFE DOCUMENTS WORKSHOP.

If something unexpected happened tomorrow, would your loved ones know what you want?

Most of us mean to complete our end-of-life paperwork, but we just don’t get around to it. Not because it isn’t important — but because it feels overwhelming, confusing, or easy to postpone.

This workshop helps you move it from “someday” to done.

Join three local death midwives for a small, guided working session where you will:

  • Learn what end-of-life documents are actually needed in Montana

  • Reflect on your personal values and wishes

  • Begin your advance directive

  • Designate a healthcare representative and a financial power of attorney

  • Understand the basics of estate planning and related documents

  • Ask tough questions in a supportive, grounded space

  • Access a notary to finalize documents before you leave

We will present key information, but this is not a lecture. This is dedicated time to sit down and take care of something that matters.

This workshop is for:

  • Adults of any age without an advance directive

  • Caregivers

  • Those supporting aging parents

  • Anyone who wants to reduce stress for their loved ones

  • People who value preparedness and clarity

You do not need to be ill. You do not need to be elderly. You simply need to care about the people who would be left making decisions.

We often hear families say, “We didn’t know what they wanted.” Planning ahead is one of the most practical and loving things you can do.

Walk away with meaningful progress, greater clarity, and peace of mind.

Register in advance: We intentionally keep this workshop small so everyone can receive individual support.

Early bird and buddy deals

Register early (before March 18th) and save $5 on your ticket with the code EARLY5. Early registrants will also receive copies of the main forms in advance, for review.

Because these topics can feel easier with support, we offer a Buddy Discount. Register with a partner, friend, or parent and receive $5 off each ticket using the code BUDDY10.

Plan ahead. Ease the burden. Leave clarity behind.

Thunder Garden: Puppet Slam!

Thunder Garden is a performance event for puppeteers and other performing artists to showcase and develop new work.

Performers will have 3 - 5 minute to perform new work for a live audience of supportive enthusiasts. All styles and skill levels are warmly embraced.

To sign up, please email: thundergardenpuppets@gmail.com

What if you’re interested in participating, but are new to puppetry? If you need help designing or building puppets, developing ideas, or writing for puppets, Thunder Garden offers collaborative guidance. Maybe you enjoy performing, but your puppet building skills are less developed. Or maybe you’re really good at building and construction, but performance isn’t your thing. We can connect you with creators that have complimentary skills, so that together, you can bring a puppet piece to life.

If you want to perform, please pre-register. This will help us plan the show, and to provide any pertinent equipment, sound support, staging and lighting.

You don’t have to participate to attend, but if you happen to get inspired during the show, there will be a number of “loaner puppets” at the venue. Last minute participation is encouraged!

Street-side Show!

One night only!

Join the legendary father-and-son improvised music duo of Jack & Ben Wright for their first and only Missoula performance.

Also playing is Bells, a new ensemble exploring unity, time, and evolution in hypnotic long-form improvisations.

Opening the evening are violinist Aria Peters and cellist Bethany Joyce.

Located in Free Cycle’s Street-Side space, just down the sidewalk from the main shop door (right at the corner by the gravel lot)
Doors at 6:30
Show at 7:00
$10 per person suggested donation at the door

7:00 p.m. – Aria Peters & Bethany Joyce (violin & cello)

7:45 p.m. – Bells
Jeremy Drake, guitar
Cooper Godfrey, guitar
Bill Kautz, trumpet/cornet
Graeme Pletscher, saxophones

8:30 p.m. – Jack & Ben Wright (saxophones & upright bass)

Jack Wright is a veteran saxophone improviser based mainly in Philadelphia, regularly touring North America and Europe the past four decades and well known to improvisers. Continually seeking out interesting partners and playing situations, Wright is one of the originals of American free improv, and now at 83 he is still the "Johnny Appleseed of Free Improvisation," as the late Davey Williams (guitarist) called him in the 80s. His partners are mostly outside of music school careerdom, unknown to the music press, and selected for their ability to interconnect musically with each other (Discography) . His influence has extended through his book, The Free Musics. published in 2017. As for his playing, he's said to have the widest vocabulary of any, an expert at leaping pitches, punchy, precise timing, sharp and intrusive multiphonics, surprising gaps of silence, and sounds that range from the animalistic to electronic. A reviewer for the Washington Post said, "In the rarefied, underground world of experimental free improvisation, saxophonist Jack Wright is king." For more info--bio, writings, discography and sounds--go to Spring Garden Music. See also: Cadence Magazine Interview, July 2017, p. 55-73

Ben Wright from Dixon, New Mexico plays double bass. He cut his teeth in Philadelphia punk rock, and has since been working the double bass for 30 odd years, bolstered by intense spats of incidental formal training. A lover of the lowest frequencies, Ben has explored many disparate forms of music through the bass, yet always returns to the wellspring of improvisation. Currently, Ben plays with Irksome, Wind Up Birds, Radio Free Bassanda, poet John Biscello, Jack Wright, Dave Wayne, and assorted eclectic partners locally and nationally.

"I play music for the bliss of that instant when I lose consciousness of my surroundings, my instrument, and myself… there is only music. That is the crux where spontaneous creation between performers and audience is conceived."

Bee Hotel, makers workshop

Let’s help the Bees, and make Bee Hotels! A Capstone Project of UM students

Here is a little info about the project: The project will target the urban area of Missoula and focus on specialist native bee species and their interaction with urban habitats. Through a local lens, this project will seek to establish additional habitat in urban Missoula by creating bee hotels to promote the abundance and diversity of native bees. Urban areas can support high levels of pollinator diversity, particularly in residential gardens and communal green spaces (Baldock et al., 2019), and bee hotels have consistently been shown to increase bee abundance and diversity across multiple studies (Rahimi et al., 2021). Citizen scientists (community members engaging in conservation) are integral to this project, and their work will facilitate the success of increasing abundance. To create bee hotels around Missoula, several workshops will be hosted, encouraging community members to attend, build a bee hotel from recycled materials, and learn about native bee conservation. All participants will be volunteers, and the materials will be locally sourced or recycled. Using community resources to establish bee hotels in a local urban setting aims to mitigate the effects of urbanization on native bee species.

Missoula Resists Sing-Along

Join the nationwide Singing Resistance movement; it started in Minnesota, now in Missoula!  Come sing along to protest songs of solidarity, grief, justice, and love for our community.  No experience or previous practice required!  We're singing short, repetitive songs taught by ear.  It's about participation, not performance; we sing to sustain the spirit of the Resistance.

We'll be singing these songs at No Kings, March 28!!

Organized by Missoula Resists SALT (Sing-Along Together).

All levels, all abilities, all voices welcome: you do NOT need to be a "good" singer to make good musical trouble!  This casual, informal singing meetup is just about defiant joyful noise; no pressure, judgement, or expectations, just fun.

Instruments welcome: guitars, drums, tambourines, triangles, whatever you can carry in.

Lyrics: Bring a phone/tablet & scan the QR code for digital PDF lyrics.

FREE EVENT: please consider donating to Free Cycles as a *thank you* for allowing us to use their space!

*Located in the Street-side Learning Center. Just down the sidewalk from the main door.*
